Episode Synopsis:

Brian's efforts to get the crew on a mission into the caves fall on deaf ears and Simkiss suggests an alternate course of action - demon hunting. Brian gets no love from anyone and gets progressively more upset. When he walks in on his stepdaughter cutting herself, it's the last straw. He snaps, storms out, and is gone.

Meryll heads out to Langborn manor in search of Brian, who has got drunk at the old football ground at the university. The Witch turns up and prods him into conversation. As they walk around Brian talks at length about his disillusionment. Finally, the witch enchants him to be attracted to her, and kisses him; this act opens up a canyon in the earth. The witch takes on Augustus Langborn, and Brian is left to defend the treasure from Taresh Ghul and his vamp squad.

Elsewhere, Simkiss has recruits Candy and Zak on the demon-hunting mission. Zak's powers develop further, and after taking out the creatures he senses the earth opening. The trio rush to the scene. There they find Brian facing down Ghul and the vamps, and leap in to help him. Ghul decides to retreat when it becomes clear Brian will not be cowed.

WIth Ghul gone and the witch dead, the group head out of the vault, only for Simkiss to betray the group and deliver the treasure to his true employer - Taresh Ghul. However, Brian, Zak and Candy finally start to feel like a family.

Trivia and Notes:

  • The spotlight's on Brian in this one. An intense ride through Brian's fears and hopes, all while plot havoc is breaking loose on all sides.
  • The heel turn for fan-fave Simkiss was a surprise for almost everyone. However, the scary-but-nice seat seems to be pleasantly filled by Terrence, fast becoming a proper member of the Slayers East group.
  • Unusually, Cass and Cynth didn't have much of a role in this episode. Giffy and Margie were, however, diligent in their presence off-camera providing moral support to their fellows. Apologies from the show-runner for not getting them more involved!
  • Jenni (Candy) discusses the episode on her livejournal
