Episode Synopsis:

Detailed synopsis here

Cass is unhappy. Small-town life is getting her down, her friends are preoccupied with playing in a band or hunting vampires in a sewer, and she misses her boyfriend Bene. When her drama teacher invites her to help with a short film, she accepts - and is stunned to find Bene has come to town to take part!

However, things are destined to not go smoothly. Cass overhears her teacher and the director talking about Bene's intent to break up with her. Then Cass has to watch as Bene and Ms Preston kiss for the camera. But as they kiss the earth moves - opening up a secret cave below the old factory location! Then some vampires arrive to take the treasure hidden within, and Cass has to step up alongside Candy to stop the vampire Gabriella snaring the prize - while up above Cynth faces down an entire pack of vamps alone. In the end treasure is revealed to be fake, Gabriella is dusted, and the vamps are sent packing, but Cass and Bene's relationship comes to an awkward end. Cass is left to cry on her bed, resigned now to the fact that Exeter is now her life...

Trivia and Notes:

  • This, the first major spotlight episode in the series, developed from a single idea - what if Bene came to town and broke up with Cass?
  • The sewer-hunting is a callback to the first episode of this season, in which Gooner the vampire said there were a number of vampires hanging out in the sewers. Additionally, Gooner mentioned a treasure hunt - the phylactery sought by Gabriella this episode develops this subplot further.
  • Exec Producer Morgan comments on the episode on his livejournal
