Episode Synopsis:

Cynth is feeling harried as the family have gathered for Chrys' wedding. As Max and Lolly receive news that they've been accepted for colleges far away from Exeter, the future of the band comes into question - and Cynth's lack of planning is highlighted. But all this is sidelined by an unexpected arrival from Seattle - Cynth's old family friend, pen-pal, and long-time crush, Ethan!

A pre-wedding meal in a restaurant with all the families present goes awry when Cynth encounters Augustus Langborn there. The old warlock explains to her that everyone has to face their demons some time... and then Cynth is unnerved as something horrifying escapes...

Cynth's suspicions are confirmed when Brian performs a ritual and discovers that yes, the creature was created from Cynth's own unresolved issues. The crew come together as the resentment demon progressively stalks the things that Cynth feels are trapping her in Exeter - including her friends. Candy becomes a target, and the demon looks likely to claim its first kill...

Luckily, Cynth's ex Max happens upon the scene and saves Candy's life while calling Cynth for help! Together, the team manage to keep the beast under control while Cynth summons her resolve and destroys it. Then, talking with her friends, she discovers that even if she decides to leave them behind in Exeter, they will still love and support her if she is following her dreams. Also, Max and Cynth finally find a level on which they can be friends.

Ethan offers Cynth a spot in Seattle with him. At a rowdy and drunken wedding reception, Cynth tells Ethan that she will not move away from Exeter yet - but she will come to visit.

Trivia and Notes:

  • Cynth finally takes center-stage in this episode. Apart from meeting her extended family for the first time, it's a triumphant return to the screen for her mad sisters Aggie and Chrys (both secondary characters of Scott and Blair). Also, for the first time, Ethan appears. Ethan was alluded to in the very first episode of Slayers East, and has been talked about occasionally since then, but this is the first time he has been seen.
  • Augustus Langborn continues to establish himself as a dangerous threat with mysterious motivations. The road to the climax begins here...
  • Beloved supporting character Max makes a heroic intervention in this episode. Max has been helping and supporting the full Slayers East crew since the middle of season three, but this is the first time he's been able to step in and really help to save the day.
