Episode Synopsis:

About two weeks later. The Children of Solace have left a trail of bodies through Exeter, including Cynth's and Andrew's friend John Liefeld. At the funeral, Cynth discovers Andrew and Christian are mixed up in a worrying elite fraternity...

Cynth, Candy, Nick and Max hang out. Sophie comes to join them. They spot Cain and Zion from the Children of Solace and follow them - bowling?

Zak witnesses the new group pressure Andrew and Christian into vandalizing a junior school trophy case. Andrew and Christian then take the rap for the Group. Cynth visits Andrew and asks about the Group, which is led by the charismatic Leon Farrell. Andrew and Christian have a final test coming...

Candy and Sophie spend more time together, and Sophie gets Candy rather drunk. Then Cynth and Zak get word to them to head to Factory Lane to crash the final test. They gather and Alison arrives too.

Brian, meanwhile has met with Lex. Brian realises there has been collusion in the past between Solace and the Watchers - is the Council corrupt? How can they be trusted?

The Group have gathered in an empty factory. Tipsy Candy falls into the guys' hands, and is frogmarched into the middle. Andrew and Christian have to climb across the shattered roof to pass the test. But then things switch up - Heather appears, followed by the Children of Solace. It's going to be a slaughter.

The Slayers East fight desperately to keep the Children of Solace at bay. There is a turning point when Zak steps into save Candy by staking Heather. The vampiric Heather is reduced to dust at Zak's hand. The Children leave.

Brian tells the others that he is leaving town. His injuries mean he's useless in the field anyway, and it's urgent to find out what is happening in the heart of the Watcher's Council. There must be information about Solace - and about Candy's role and fate. So he goes to England...

Trivia and Notes:

  • Pre-production notes for the episode (.pdf file, 115K)
  • The Children of Solace are back on the scene in this episode, and the body count rises. It's clear they are a real threat and must soon be faced.
  • This episode also features the return of Andrew and Christian, Candy's older-guy love triangle from previous seasons. For maximum drama, they of course turn up just as Candy's growing thing with Nick starts to get some momentum.
  • Heather meets her end this episode, staked by Zak. This is the first time a long-established character has been killed since the death of John, and is equally traumatic.
  • Most importantly, this episode features the departure of Brian as a regular character. This was caused by the departure of Blair Rhodes for foreign shores, and Brian is written out for exactly the same reason. It is not, however, the end of Brian's involvement in the ongoing story...
  • SOPHIE (to Heather): My new friends are way cooler than your new friends.
HEATHER: Yeah? Well, my new friends are gonna eat your new friends.
  • CANDY: You can't frighten me and you can't frighten my friends! I don't care who you are or where you come from, this is my town and I'm not leaving!"
  • "We went bowling because 2/3 of the Children of solace went bowling. They bowled all night. Bowling was weird." - from Candy's diary.
