Episode Synopsis:

At the University, Brian and Alison research the Children of Solace, discuss the impending return of Sophie, and meet angry Professor Trofymov - who, when out of their sight, turns into a wolf...

Zak goes to the counsellor about returning to school. While waiting he meets new kid Nick - who turns out to be Lex Madsen's son! Meanwhile, Cynth and Candy plan with Alison how to cope with the Children of Solace.

That night, Candy, Brian, Meryll and Zak play Monopoly. They are interrupted by Simkiss, who warns Candy to stay away from the werewolf - it's his. First they've heard of it! After Simkiss goes, the crew head out to all-ages club Trinity to find some leads.

At Trinity, Candy meets a guy from out of town, who clocks her as a Slayer potential. They trail him outside, where in an alley he reveals himself as Oz, friend of The Slayer from over on the West Coast. He's hunting the werewolf too - to help him.

Nick starts school. Steph and Lolly stake their claim and warn Candy and Cynth off. Heather's dad appears and accuses Zak of bewitching his daughter; Zak accuses him of causing Heather to starve herself. A fight breaks out, which Candy breaks up.

Elsewhere, Trofymov meets Troy and Alistair, who mock him. In return, he gives them a phial of liquid which turns them into dogs. They run wild. Meanwhile, Brian and Alison have met Lex and conducted a werewolf-finding ritual. Oz is the werewolf!

However, a meeting with dog-Troy and dog-Alistair reveals that Trofymov is involved. At the University, a four-way tussle develops between the Slayers, wolf-Trofymov, Simkiss, and Oz. Then Cynth found the antidote and Trofymov reverted to normal. Crisis over, Simkiss and Oz both left town

Trivia and Notes:

  • Pre-production notes for the episode (.pdf file, 121K)
  • A much more light-hearted episode following the intensity of the season-opener. Troy and Alister get highlight roles this ep, going wild with the comic relief.
  • This episode features the first (and only) appearance of a character from the Buffy TV series, Oz. Man, Oz is hard to do well. He's so taciturn and witty that the pressure's on every time he has a line of dialogue. Unforgiving. But a nice guest appearance nonetheless. Continuity-wise, this episode fits in not long after Oz's departure from Buffy early in season four of that show.
  • This episode also features the return of mercenary Blake Simkiss and guidance counsellor Selwyn Hanify, both last seen in season 2 episode 3.
  • "The were-scientist said he'd been doing it to get rid of the headaches he always had. WEIRDO. So I told him to take Tai Chi or something... Alistair got turned back human and Troy ran away. I think he wanted to stay a dog. Poor Troy, he suited being a dog." - from Candy's journal
