Season 2, Episode 7 "The Cabin"

"The Cabin" synopsis - page three (back to page two)

Exeter Regent penthouse, int. Evening.
We're back, and Brian and Madsen are "strapping on the feedbag" at the Exeter Regent. Madsen relates his life story. He enjoys a challenge, seeks to dominate whatever he comes into contact with, which is why he's been so good in the business world, and he sees the supernatural as his latest and greatest challenge. The tall Texan displays qualities that would make Aryn Rand and Friedrich Nietzsche proud. He reports that the hellmouth below the Langbourne Estate is the real source of power hereabouts; he wants to steal R'Thilliach's power and wipe out all the vampires. Then Madsen turns his attention to the munching academic, saying it'd be great to have him working with them. Brian seems to hesitate.

"What is it, what can Lex do for you? Is it money?"

"No, it's not money-"

"I know. You want tenure? Pick a chair, pick a University, I can make it happen!"

"No, I don't want a chair-"

Madsen spreads his hands. "What do you want, then?"

Brian puts down his utensils and looks Madsen dead in the eye. "All I want is to kill the vampires," he grates.

"That's what I want, too!" Madsen grins. "Whaddya say, Brian? Are you on board?"

Brian knows what he has to do to keep his family and children safe, and is prepared to side with the competition. "Yes, I'm on board."

"That's great!" Madsen enthuses; there's a closeup as their two hands meet.

Mister Pipe appears carrying a large bottle. "Well, I think this calls for a celebration. Champagne?" The cork pops and foam spouts as Brian and Madsen shake on it.

Ext. Lockely Cabin. Early evening.
Back at the camp, night is falling and the fire is crackling. In an attempt to get something going, the Older Sisters insist on starting a game of "truth or dare". Neither of the younger boys or girls are that enthused, but they don't move quick enough to stop Aggie jumping right in: "Chrys, what was your first kiss?" "You should know, you were there!" she replies tartly. After a bit of revisionist history on the part of Chrys' early love-life, it's her turn.

The Older Sister's jazz cigarette-clouded mind turns over furiously. "Candy... tell us what you like about Andrew... or you have to kiss Max!" The moment of discomfort is broken as Candy shrugs and pecks Max on the cheek. The next question is being formulated when a terrified apparition breaks into the camping ground, telling in terror. Candy and Cynth recognise the hiker they saw earlier in the day. He yells at them to get inside; they try unsuccessfully to get some sense out of him.

Candy and Cynth notice tall, slimy shapes moving in the darkness. The Older Sisters herd the younger ones inside the cabin. Candy tries to see what's out there, even as over-protective Andrew tries to drag her into the cabin, only serving to distract the Slayer. Chrys herds Aggie, Cynth and Max inside, yelling at the young pair to move themselves inside. Something comes out of the shifting shadows and grabs the hiker, talons enveloping him in an inhuman grip. He screams in terror. Candy tries to get to him, but just as quickly notices other shapes moving to outflank the cabin: they're surrounded.

Chrys yells at the young pair to get back inside. Much as she hates to, Candy is forced to leave the hiker to fend for himself and fall back inside Lockely Cabin. Cynth and Candy immediately go into their "pre-game huddle", breaking out such implements of destruction from their backpacks to make the others wonder what's going on inside as well as out. Chrys and Max barricade the front door with furniture, and turn their attention to the windows. Andrew fetches weapons from the kitchen and secures the backdoor. Aggie tries to find the telephone, but there's no landline. They try not to think of the hiker trapped outside; he's still yelling.

The Older Sisters check their cellphones, and are crestfallen to find there's no coverage in this area. Andrew insists they have to break out and get to the other cabin, where the hiker came from; there could be others in danger. Candy goes into "field commander" mode, arguing that they have to beat back the things first. She issues orders on taking up positions and backing her and Cynth up. The holiday-makers prepare for the Assault on Precinct Lockely...

Exeter video rental store, int. Afternoon.
And now we're at a local Exeter video store, with Troy and Alastair loading up on their "Aeon Flux", "Sapphire and Steel" and "Glam Metal Detectives". To their joy, they spot Lollie and Stephie picking out films nearby. They quickly hatch a plan. Alistair runs interference, jumping out at the startled young debutantes and grabbing their stack of videos. "What have you got HERE?!" He juggles and examines their choice of entertainment. Meanwhile, Troy slips an unequivocally "XXX" rated video into their stash unseen. Pretending to take pity on the girls, the scallywags return the videos. The debutantes take their leave quickly and go to the counter as Troy and Alistair take cover.

The boys watch giggling as the innocuous videos are rung up one after the other, and then right at the end, the underground cult classic "Cum On Eileen". Stephie and Lollie look on in sudden horror as the adult video (covered with more Xs than a crate of Australian beer) is rung up on their account (and presumably entered on their permanent hire record).

"...But... we didn't choose THAT!" Stephie squeaks.

The 16-hour shift, minimum wage clerk sighs. "Well, you've paid for it, you might as well take it."

"But-but- we don't want it!" she protests.

"Yah! Perverts!" The larrikins break cover to mock the hapless debutantes, howling with laughter. Stephie quickly realises she's been had and goes into a rage. "I hate you!" she cries. She throws the offending video at the boys. It passes through the detector, setting it off, and crashes into a stack of New Releases, scattering "The Matrix" and "Toy Story II" to the fickle winds.

"Hey!" an employee yells. "What are you doing with our porno?!"

Ext. Mean streets of Exeter. Afternoon.
The A.D.D. Duo continue to laugh and mock as Stephie gets more and more upset. The debutantes leave the video store in a huff, with Troy and Alistair watching them go, still admiring their handiwork. Things take a turn for the sinister as a delivery truck pulls up to the two girls. Though the boys can't hear what's going on, there's some animosity between the driver and Lollie, as they're yelling at one another.

Suddenly, the driver jumps from the cab and pushes Stephie to one side. The boys get a glimpse of her: it's a dark-haired, olive-skinned young woman. She hauls Lollie inside the truck, still yelling abuse at her. The truck drives away. With a shock, the boys realise they recognised the dark-haired woman's passenger. "Hey! She had Heather with her!" They valiantly give chase on foot, managing to catch up to the truck at the traffic lights. They try to climb inside, but the driver locks the door and drives away, forcing them to leap from the truck. Troy and Alastair call out to Heather... but she turns her head away.
