Candy (Jenni Sands)Candy (Candace Knight) is the spunky slayer-potential at the centre of the show. It was during the summer holidays between 7th and 8th grade that she was approached by Alison Ridgway and her heritage was revealed. She has reluctantly accepted what Alison has demanded of her, and her determined attitude served her well when supernatural events enveloped her home town of Exeter shortly after the beginning of the 8th grade school year. Candy is athletic and growing in confidence. She has started keeping a diary. A crush on 9th grader Christian hasn't worked out, but she has taken some tentative steps with his friend Andrew. She gets on well with her mother, and although her relationship with her stepfather remains awkward, it is improving. Cynth (Margie Worboys)Cynth (Hyacinth Papageorgio) is Candy's sensitive and resourceful best friend. Cynth gives the appearance of being bookish and shy, but she isn't really either of those things. A terrible slacker, she is constantly in danger of failing and being held back a grade, and she is never afraid to speak her mind when moved to do so. When Cynth was caught up in Candy's slaying activities, she was a keen supporter, and enjoyed the adventure of helping her friend. John's death was something of a slap in the face, and she is a lot more careful about getting involved in the supernatural now, although she is determined that Candy shouldn't have to cope with it all alone. She isn't often found on the front line of a fight, but her bravery has been tested many times and she has never come up short. When Cynth discovered that her childhood friend and neighbour Andrew liked Candy, she started trying to push them together, a process that is slowly bearing fruit. CC (Rachael Worboys)CC (Cassandra Crewdson) was best friends with Cynth and Candy but she moved away to New York. She was also involved in Candy's slaying activities almost from the start. She was a drama student along with Lolly and Max, and a talented one - she was up for the lead in the school play when she received the news she was leaving town. Her mother, Bea, had won a job with a prestigious New York-based fashion magazine, and was consequently moving to Manhattan. This was the end of CC's life in the suburbs of Exeter. Zak (Scott Anderson)Zak (Zachary Stevens) is Candy's rebellious stepbrother. He is younger than Candy but has ended up in the same grade. Zak is a nuisance and a hellraiser, often bunking school and misbehaving. He has a thoughtful and generous side that occasionally emerges, but also a vicious streak that he turns on Meryll, his stepmother. Zak has embraced the role of slayer-of-evil more than any of the other kids. He has proven to be a crucial ally on more than one occasion, often thinking quickly when he's against the wall. Zak's offsider is Phil, who seems content to follow Zak's lead. Zak spent some time with the hyperactive Troy and Alister, but their friendship has been on the outs since "The Marionette". John (Andrew Salmond)John (Jonathan Ridgway) was a watcher-in-training who died preventing the rising of R'Thilliach. Born in England, he was transplanted to the US with his mother when she came to Exeter to be Candy's watcher. He found a place for himself at Exeter High School for his final year of schooling. By the end of the year he had earned the affection and respect of most his schoolmates. He had also earned the affection and respect of Candy, Cynth and CC, and had become something of a confidante for Zak. The only person who seemed unable to appreciate his abilities was his mother, Alison, whose overprotection may have contributed to John's fatal decision to put his life on the line. Brian (Blair Rhodes)Brian Stephens is Zak's dad and Candy's stepfather. He is determined to help his kids however he can do so. Brian is an American History lecturer at the local University, and he has harboured a personal interest in the occult all his life. He has involved himself in the business of his stepdaughter because there were no other adults to be called upon; he saw a need, and seized it. He is carving out a niche for himself in the group as a source of advice and common sense, in some ways filling the role Alison held while she was with the group. |
